Product development focused on you
We design, prototype, and manufacture products where hardware, firmware, and mechanics must work together flawlessly. We’ve delivered solutions in consumer electronics, industrial automation, and medical research.
Capabilities
Many of today's products lie at the intersection of mechanics, electronics, and software. Moth Devices has both the domain-specific proficiency and systems-engineering expertise necessary to bring all these components together to work in harmony. No matter where you are in the product development process - design, prototyping, fabrication, or manufacturing - we’ll get you to the next step so you can move your product into production.
-
Machine Design
We design precision mechanical systems. Our work includes mechanisms, thermal design, structural optimization, and manufacturability for CNC, molding, and additive processes.
-
Electronics
We develop production‑ready electronics, from low‑power sensor nodes to high‑speed digital systems.
-
Embedded Software
We specialize in embedded microcontroller programming, mobile user interfaces, and bluetooth communications.
-
Systems-Engineering
We have the systems-engineering expertise necessary to make sure the electronic, mechanical, and software subcomponents of your project work together in concert.

3-D Printing
Moth Devices has the in-house capability to manufacture 2-layer and 4-layer PCBs (available for 24hour quick-turn service). Common components are kept in-stock in order to avoid design-related availability issues.
In-house manufacturing capabilities include 3-D printing and CNC-machining. We also work with top-shelf suppliers, both local (Detroit-area) and nation-wide, to get quality parts manufactured quickly and inexpensively.
Product Benchmarking
Environmental Testing
EMI Precompliance
Whether you are seeking insight into how a competitor's product works, need spare parts for products that are no longer manufactured, or want to find out how to extract that last drop of performance out of an existing design - we have you covered.
Our extended temperature-range environmental capabilities (from -75°C to +180°C) and EMI pre-compliance testing can de-risk your project and accelerate your product's time-to-market.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How much does it cost to develop a prototype?
+
-
The answer to this depends on the prototype's maturity, level of complexity, and method of manufacture. Costs for a simple 3-D printed mechanical device can be a low as $100. Additional design work, electronics, or custom machining can add to the total cost. To get a free estimate for your project, please contact us or schedule a free consultation - we will build you a customized quote that includes only the necessary services and costs to deliver you a prototype that meets your specific requirements.
How can I be certain that my idea remains confidential?
+
-
Integrity is a founding principle of our company - every conversation you have with us is guaranteed to be confidential. You may be interested in having a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) prior to consulting about your project - please contact us at (734) 822-8250 and we will be happy to generate a copy and send it to your email for completion.
Does Moth Devices take equity of my product or company?
+
-
Your ideas and your product are your own - when you develop a product with Moth Devices, you retain 100% of your company equity and Intellectual Property. We do not accept equity or IP in exchange for any of our product development services.
Do I need to already have design files, drawings, or patents to start a project?
+
-
The only things you need to start a project are an idea and a free consultation appointment! Previous work and project resources (including drawings or napkin sketches) may help but are not strictly necessary to start a project.
